The Stichting Omroep Muziek (SOM) facilitates the concert series and ensembles of Netherlands Public Broadcasting (NPO), including the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (Radio Filharmonisch Orkest) under chief conductor Karina Canellakis, and the Netherlands Radio Choir under chief conductor Benjamin Goodson. The orchestra features prominently in NPO concert series such as the NTR ZaterdagMatinee, AVROTROS Vrijdagconcert, and Het Zondagochtend Concert, presenting major orchestral and symphonic works from the Romantic era to the present day.

Founded in 1945, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra has built an esteemed place in Dutch musical life. Together with the Netherlands Radio Choir, it received the Concertgebouw Prize in September 2017. The orchestra distinguishes itself through specially curated symphonic programmes, concertante opera, and Dutch repertoire, with a longstanding tradition of world and Dutch premieres.

Vacancy: Principal Oboe

The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra is seeking a Principal Oboe with an obligation to play on a lower chair. This is a full-time (100%) position. The intended start date is to be determined.

Audition Details

Auditions will be held at Studio 5, Heuvellaan, Hilversum, The Netherlands.

  • Preliminary Audition: Monday, November 30, 2026 at 9:30 AM — conducted behind a screen
  • Final Audition: Tuesday, December 1, 2026 at 1:00 PM

Following the preliminary round, candidates will be informed whether they advance to the final audition.

Audition Repertoire

  • Mozart Oboe Concerto, K. 314 — 1st movement, without cadenza
  • Strauss Oboe Concerto — 2nd movement with cadenza
  • Orchestral excerpts

How to Apply

Applications are accepted until Friday, October 30, 2026. The orchestra reserves the right to conduct an initial selection based on submitted materials, and may request a video recording if there is a large number of registrations.
