The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra (Keski-Pohjanmaan Kamariorkesteri) invites applications for the position of 1st Principal Cellist.

About the Role

As 1st Principal Cellist, you will play a central role as leader of the cello section and as an active chamber musician. In addition to core string orchestra repertoire, the position offers opportunities to engage with symphonic works and chamber music at the highest artistic level, as well as participation in audience engagement activities and community-based projects.

Audition Repertoire

  1. Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 2 in D major, Hob. VIIb:2 — first movement with cadenza(s) and the second movement
  2. One of the following concertos (first movement):
    • Antonín Dvořák: Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191
    • Robert Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor, Op. 129
  3. One movement (excluding a Prelude) from J. S. Bach’s Cello Suites Nos. 1–4
  4. Orchestral and chamber music excerpts — to be sent as a PDF to candidates invited after the application period

Practical Information

Candidates are encouraged to bring their own accompanist. If needed, a pianist provided by the orchestra will be available; no advance rehearsal will be arranged. The audition process may include an interview. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
