Overview
Contracted musicians with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra are paid on a per-service basis, including mileage. Double occupancy hotel rooms are provided as needed. There are approximately 35 services per season.
2026-2027 Season rates:
Principal players receive $120 per service
Section players receive $100 per service
Mileage reimbursement $0.30 per mile up to a maximum of 600 miles
TO APPLY:
Mail a BRIEF, ONE-PAGE resume and a $100 refundable deposit check to the address below. Resumes must include applicant name, phone number, email address and instrument. Resumes may also be sent by email, attached in PDF or Word formats to [email protected]. In the email subject line, please state the position for which you would like to audition. Applicants will be contacted upon receipt of both their resume and deposit check with a confirmation of audition date and time. The deposit is refundable in person, or in case of cancelation no less than 7 days prior to the auditions.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Visit bangorsymphony.org/auditions to download a PDF of audition requirements. Candidates are responsible for obtaining audition repertoire in advance from standard excerpt books, IMSLP, purchasable music and orchestral scores. Parts will be available at the audition. Each candidate may use his or her own parts for the audition if desired.

About Bangor Symphony Orchestra
The Bangor Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1896, making the BSO one of the oldest continuously operating orchestras in the U.S.
Today, the Symphony is led by Grammy Award-winning Music Director and Conductor Lucas Richman. Mainstage programs include a performance series at the Collins Center for the Arts, with 5 Masterworks Concerts, The Nutcracker with the Robinson Ballet, and annual Young People’s Concerts. Educational and community programming includes the Maine High School Concerto Competition, the Maurice P. King & Constance K. Barnes Master Class, the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestras, a Music & Wellness Program at area hospitals, and a rich variety of initiatives in community spaces.
