Overview
The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has grown into one of Scandinavia’s most successful orchestras, with notable artistic development and rising audience numbers in recent years, both in Norway and abroad. Its internationally acclaimed concert hall, opened in 2012, has supported that growth.
The SSO is a democratic organisation in which musicians have a genuine opportunity to shape both artistic direction and working conditions. The orchestra has 85 musicians from 23 countries, supported by a staff of 16.
Stavanger is surrounded by striking scenery, close to both mountains and ocean, offering plenty of outdoor activities away from work, alongside a rich cultural life; the city was European Capital of Culture in 2008.
