Junior Fellow in Double Bass – RNCM

The Royal Northern College of Music is recruiting a Junior Fellow in Double Bass for the Academic Year 2026/2027.

This salaried position offers the successful candidate the chance to gain valuable experience within the RNCM’s wide range of orchestras and ensembles, while also developing professional connections externally.

Role Overview

Orchestral Junior Fellowships involve up to 400 hours of RNCM ensemble rehearsals and performances. RNCM students perform across an extensive array of ensembles, exploring repertoire from all periods alongside brand-new works.

You could find yourself performing in Opera, Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Contemporary Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Repertoire Orchestras, or internal workshops. Each project is distinctive and engaging. World-class conductors and directors are regularly invited, and professional players are embedded within ensembles — providing excellent networking opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performing in weekly classes for RNCM conducting students, which often welcome highly regarded visiting conductors
  • Supporting your school through workshops or repertoire ensembles
  • Potential involvement in School of Chamber Music activity, recruitment activities, and administrative duties at the discretion of the Head of School

All activity is included within the 400-hour contract. Fellows are expected to lead by example, demonstrating the professional etiquette required of a performer, arriving to rehearsals in good time and fully prepared.

Mentor support will be provided by relevant staff.

Application Deadline: April 17, 2026
