Junior Fellow in Viola – RNCM

The Royal Northern College of Music is recruiting a Junior Fellow in Viola for the Academic Year 2026/2027.

This position allows the successful candidate to gain experience within the RNCM’s diverse range of orchestras and ensembles, while building professional connections externally. The Orchestral Junior Fellowships are salaried positions, with 400 hours of ensemble rehearsals and performances included.

Activities

RNCM students perform across a broad range of ensembles covering repertoire from every corner of music, including new works. Fellows may perform in Opera, Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Contemporary Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Repertoire Orchestras, or internal workshops. World-class conductors and directors are regularly engaged, and professional players are embedded within ensembles.

Additional duties may include playing in conducting classes, supporting school-based workshops, and participating in Chamber Music activity and recruitment events.

Requirements

Candidates should have a solid base of orchestral experience from conservatoire or university training. They must demonstrate professional etiquette and be fully prepared for rehearsals. Mentor support will be provided by relevant key staff.
