Principal 3rd Horn – Queensland Symphony Orchestra

Salary range of $95,978 – $101,352, plus 12% superannuation. In addition, you will receive instrument and clothing allowances of $1,816.55 per annum. QSO also provides a comprehensive instrument insurance scheme, health and wellbeing programs, and the orchestra enjoys generous leave entitlements including five weeks of annual leave plus a paid mid-year break of at least nine days.

This position is open to Australian and New Zealand citizens and those with Australian permanent residency status. The role is permanent full-time, subject to successful completion of a 6-month trial period.

Audition Details

Date: Thursday and Friday, August 20–21, 2026
Location: ABC Southbank, 114 Grey St, Brisbane, Queensland

An accompanist will be provided for live auditions. Applicants unable to attend in person are encouraged to submit a recorded audition and will be provided with requirements upon application. The deadline for submitting recorded auditions is Thursday, August 5, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

Audition Requirements

Set Works (to be played with piano accompaniment):

  1. Mozart: Horn Concerto No. 2 or No. 4, 1st movement – with cadenza where appropriate
  2. R. Strauss: Horn Concerto No. 1, 1st movement

Selection Process

The selection consists of a preselection based on submitted applications, followed by a live audition. Unsolicited recruitment agency CVs will not be accepted.
