Dijon Opera is a leading lyrical institution presenting over 70 performances to more than 60,000 spectators each season. Holder of the “Opéra lyrique d’Intérêt National” label since 2017, the company employs around 85 permanent staff — including a 21-voice resident choir, a pianist, and specialist production workshops — with an annual budget of approximately 12 million euros.

Audition Schedule

Auditions will be held on the stage of the Dijon Auditorium (11 Boulevard de Verdun, 21000 Dijon):

  • 31 August 2026, from 10:00 AM
  • 1 September 2026, from 10:00 AM

Candidates should choose the date that best suits them. Registration deadline: 25 August 2026. The position starts in September 2026. Salary is governed by the CCNEAC collective agreement for chorus singers, according to the candidate’s experience.

Audition Programme

1st Round: An opera aria of the candidate’s choice (in the original key); a chorus part from Verdi’s Rigoletto; and Rossini’s Grand Vocalise from the note “C.”

2nd Round: Sight-reading from a melody or opera chorus (5 minutes preparation); a free aria in a contrasting style from Round 1; and a chorus part from J.S. Bach’s Motet Singet dem Herrn.

3rd Round: An ensemble rehearsal with the full choir under the choirmaster (excerpts from Poulenc’s Stabat Mater and Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de perles); followed by a jury interview (10–20 minutes) focused on professional experience and motivation.

Application Requirements

A video or audio recording of a free aria must accompany the application; submissions without a recording will not be considered. The opera may also request proof of training or experience, references, and — for non-EU nationals — confirmation of French work authorisation. Dijon Opera will assist with administrative steps where needed for foreign applicants not residing in France.
