About the Position
The Queensland Symphony Orchestra is seeking a Section Musician – First Violin. The position is open to Australian residents and non-Australian residents willing to relocate to Brisbane, QLD. Appointment of non-Australian candidates is subject to satisfying Australian visa requirements.
Compensation
Salary range of AUD $78,792 – $91,681 plus 12% superannuation and an additional $2,504 in allowances.

Selection Process
The first round of auditions will be conducted via recorded submissions. Candidates should submit:
- CV with relevant orchestral experience and contact details
- A recording of the first-round set work and orchestral excerpts
Recorded audition deadline: Monday, 27 July 2026
First Round – Recorded Audition Requirements
Set work (with piano accompaniment):
- First movement of Mozart Concerto No. 3, 4, or 5 — exposition with cadenza
Orchestral excerpts (performed solo):
- Beethoven – Symphony No. 9, 3rd movement
- Brahms – Symphony No. 4, 4th movement
- Mahler – Symphony No. 6 in A minor, 1st movement
- Prokofiev – Classical Symphony, Op. 25, 4th movement
- Verdi – La Forza del Destino: Overture
Second and Third Rounds – Live Audition
Shortlisted candidates will be advised of set works and excerpts closer to the date. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, 22 September 2026 at the ABC Building, South Brisbane. In-person attendance is encouraged; recordings will also be accepted. An accompanist will be provided for live auditions.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified within 14 days of the closing date.
