HOW TO APPLY
Choose ONE of the following options:

OPTION A: RECORDED PRELIMINARY ROUND
Submission deadline: March 6, 2026

Provide UNEDITED digital audio recordings in MP3 format that were recorded within the past year. Each recorded section must be a separate file and a single take.

1. Recordings MUST include the following:

• 2-3 minutes (or exposition) of a standard solo work
Accompaniment optional; live performance acceptable but not required

• 3-5 orchestral or wind ensemble excerpts of the candidate’s choice clearly showing contrasting styles
Such as lyrical, technical, high and low horn playing, etc. (Live performances with ensembles NOT acceptable)

2. Name each file as follows: ComposerLastName_TitleOfSelection.mp3

3. Upload files to a single folder in a cloud provider of your choice (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). Create a PUBLICLY VIEWABLE link to the folder and add the link to the body of an email. Do not include videos or identifying information in the recordings or folder.

4. Attach a recent resumé in PDF format with your current physical address, phone, and email address to the email containing the link to your folder. Send to: [email protected].

5. If selected, travel/lodging/meals paid following enlistment qualification through a US Army recruiter

OPTION B: LIVE PRELIMINARY ROUND
Resumé Due: May 1, 2026
Preliminary Round: May 26, 2026 – Fort Meade, MD

1. Solos and Excerpts will be selected from the finals list and will be available online by March 15, 2026

2. No later than May 1, 2026, send a recent PDF resumé with your physical address, phone, and email to [email protected].

3. The live preliminary round will take place at Fort Meade, MD on May 26, 2026. All travel, lodging, and meals will be at applicant expense.

Select applicants will be invited to Fort Meade, MD, for an in-person audition and interview on May 27, 2026. Travel expenses will be paid upon meeting the U.S. Army’s aptitude, physical, and behavioral standards.

Military personnel must be eligible for a PCS, submit an Intent to Release memorandum from the unit Commander, and submit a Soldier Talent Profile (STP) or equivalent.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Perform in the Concert Band of the United States Army Field Band
• Tour approximately 100 days per year in the U.S. and abroad
• Perform in various small chamber ensembles
• Contribute to innovative performances for broadcast audiences, live events, and educational outreach
• Learn and refine new skills as desired in multimedia production, marketing, music education, and more

About The United States Army Field Band

THE UNITED STATES ARMY FIELD BAND is the Department of the Army’s premier touring musical representative. Its mission is to develop positive connections on behalf of the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, and the United States through live music and multimedia performances, media, television productions, and emergent technologies. The Field Band has appeared in all fifty states and in more than thirty countries on four continents. The organization’s five performing components, the Concert Band, Soldiers’ Chorus, Jazz Ambassadors, Commercial Music Group, and Six String Soldiers, each travel more than 100 days annually. Tours include formal public concerts, school assemblies, educational outreach programs, festivals, and radio and television appearances.
