Application requirements: Include your current phone number, email and mailing addresses on your resume. Succinctly outline education and professional engagements. Limit length to one page. You may email a PDF of your resume to auditions@wtxs.org, but your application will not be complete until we also receive a deposit check. Deposit checks should be made out to West Texas Symphony, with “Concertmaster Audition” in the memo line. Checks will be returned at the audition or shredded if you cancel prior to August 22th.
Following the live rounds, as many as 5 candidates will be invited to perform for an upcoming cycle in the 2025-2026 season, with appropriate pay and stipends. During this time, the applicant will visit the area, meet directors and colleagues, have the opportunity to teach and lead masterclasses, etc.
Description: This position includes serving as Concertmaster with the West Texas Symphony and Violin I with the resident quartet, the Permian Basin String Quartet. Due to the performance opportunities of this position, the successful candidate must live in the Midland-Odessa area during the season (August through May). The first season is probationary with the possibility for more permanence. The position will commence with the 2025-2026 season.
Each season features a minimum of four Masterworks programs, three Pops & Family programs, and an annual cycle of The Nutcracker with the Midland Festival Ballet. Additional series may include educational programs and other potential collaborations. A typical season will hold at least 35 orchestral services and recitals. The Permian Basin String Quartet is additionally in high demand for gigs and educational engagements outside of employment with the West Texas Symphony.
Pay Scale: Concertmaster orchestral pay scale is $170.00 per service, with an additional $100 bowing stipend for each Masterworks. This position also includes an annual quartet stipend of $13,373.00, paid in monthly installments during the course of the season (August 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026 in its entirety),
