Introduction
Andrew is a vibrant young tuba player whose career has taken him across Europe as both a soloist and teacher.
Raised in Gloucestershire to a family of musicians, Andrew started his musical journey from a very young age. Soon after his tenth birthday he held a tuba for the first time, and within a month had secured a position in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain.
Andrew later studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the close guidance of Sean O’Neill, where he won several competitions, including the Linda Mowat Solo Brass Prize and the Concerto Competition. In honour of this achievement, RWCMD commissioned a concerto for Andrew by Welsh composer Gareth Wood, which he premiered in October 2015.
Andrew is enjoying a burgeoning freelance career, including performing, teaching, tutoring and arranging. Andrew plays regularly with orchestras such as Birmingham Royal Ballet, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, English Symphony Orchestra and many more. He has recently been touring with the Novello Orchestra, providing the live music to the screening of films such as Beauty and the Beast and La La Land, and Star Wars episode. Recording highlights include the Doctor Who Soundtrack, a CD with Cerys Matthews, and appearing on BBC Songs of Praise.
In addition to a busy teaching schedule, Andrew is lecturer of Tuba at Cardiff University, Junior Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Head of Brass with Junior National Schools Symphony Orchestra.
