Introduction
Angela SooYeon Yoon is an active professional violinist and classical concert producer located in New York City, New York. She currently works for Tom Kirdahy Productions, the studio responsible for multiple award-winning musicals and theater productions including Anastasia, Bandstand, Ragtime, After Midnight, and The Visit. In addition to her work with Tom Kirdahy, Angela is pursuing a business certificate at the Columbia Business School. Angela uses her knowledge of classical music performance and concert production to elevate important social causes. She plans to continue her career at the intersection of music and social justice upon completion of her Columbia Business program.
Angela began her performance career at the McGill University Schulich School of Music, where she completed a BA in violin performance. Throughout her performance career, Angela has trained under and taken inspiration from Sally Thomas, Mark Fewer, Bettina Mussumeli, Catherine Van Hoesen, and Kay Stern. During her time at McGill, Angela used her classical violin performance to promote a number of local social benefit efforts through Chamber Musicians without Borders.
Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, Angela accepted a position with the First Violin section of the Western Symphony Orchestra (WSO) in Seoul, Korea. Her experience with WSO greatly expanded her performance repertoire to include pieces from Musical Theatre, Popera, Opera, and Jazz. She also collaborated with world-famous musicians including soprano Sumi Jo and pianists Yung Wook Yoo and Hye Kyung Seo. Angela also soloed with the Union Symphony Orchestra under the assistant conductor of the Indianapolis Philharmonic, Vince Lee. To learn more about Angela’s performance career, click here.
Angela then attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) to expand her knowledge of the performing arts industry and begin her career in classical concert production. Upon her arrival, Angela was awarded the Sarlo Scholarship for her achievements in violin performance and appointed the SFCM International Representative by her peers. While at SFCM, Angela greatly expanded upon the social benefit work she began at McGill. She produced and performed in a number of benefit concerts, including Gratitude, a concert dedicated to addressing the plight of American veterans with PTSD. She was also involved in a concert series at the New Jersey Comfort Women Monument, dedicated to honoring the comfort women of WWII. In addition to her concert production work, Angela worked as a sound engineer for the SFCM recording studio and as a development assistant for the SFCM Development Office.
After graduation from SFCM, Angela worked as an outreach concert producer for Noe Valley Chamber Music and as a client relations specialist for the Berkeley Symphony. In order to expand her knowledge of the concert producing, she obtained a Certificate in Business Management from Stanford Graduate School of Business and currently enrolled at the Columbia University, the city of New York, in Professional Studies in Business.
