Oboe

Introduction

Scottish born Anna Seaton is an Oboe and Cor Anglais player who graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in July 2016, where she was a member of the Junior Department
for three years before completing the Bachelor of Music Performance course studying with
Stephen West, James Horan, Adrian Wilson and Joe Houghton. During this time Anna was
awarded the John MacIntyre Memorial Scholarship for 2011 – 2012 whilst a member of the
Junior Conservatoire, and the Agnes Millar Harmony and Counterpoint Prize in 2014.
In September 2016 Anna began her studies of a Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music, under the tutelage of Fabien Thouand, Olivier Stankiewicz, John Anderson and
Christine Pendrill. In April 2017 Anna was awarded the Oboe Prize in the RCM Solo
Woodwind Competition. She is a RCM Scholar supported by an Ian Evans Lombe Award.
Anna is also kindly supported by the Sir James Caird’s Travelling Scholarship Trust, the
MacGlashan Charitable Trust, and the Perth and Kinross Educational Trust.
Anna has been fortunate to gain experience in an number of orchestral settings. While at
the RCM Anna has performed in a number of high profile concerts, working with world
famous conductors, including Bernard Haitink and John Wilson; playing at venues such as
Buckingham Palace for HRH The Prince of Wales; and playing side by side with members of
the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Other orchestral highlights include performing with
Nicola Benedetti at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall for HRH The Earl of Wessex as a
member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. Other ensemble work includes
performing alongside Scottish contemporary music ensemble Red Note as part of Plug
Festival at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Anna is one of the original orchestral
members of Raucous Rossini Opera Company who have performed across the UK and Italy,
and the New Generation Festival Orchestra.
Throughout her studies Anna has taken part in masterclasses with Jacques Tys, Celia Craig,
Francois Leleux and Alison Teale. In April 2015 travelled to Switzerland to attend the Muri
Masterclass, where she studied with Albrecht Mayer, Emanuel Abbühl and Jean-Louis
Capezzali.
Anna has a strong interest in British music, and enjoys including works by British composers
as a main feature in her recital repertoire. Anna also enjoys Traditional Scottish music,
having studied traditional Scottish fiddle with Marie Fielding, Pete Clark and Alistair
McCulloch while at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
