Introduction
Daniel Janca is a versatile percussionist and drummer engaged in an array of contemporary and classical genres as an avid collaborator & soloist.
During the past ten years he had the privilage to develop through the invaluable experience of working with composers such as Steve Reich, David Lang, Péter Eötvös, Helmut Lachenmann, orchestras and conductors including Concerto Budapest directed by András Keller, the Budapest Festival Orchestra led by Iván Fischer, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra with Zoltán Kocsis, moreover ensembles like the Amadinda Percussion Group, Ju Percussion Group, and the PASIC All-Star International Percussion Ensemble.
Venues of his appearances included Carnegie Hall (New York), Konzerthaus (Vienna), Stadtcasino (Basel), Stefaniensaal (Graz), Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Ravello Festival Italy, NCPA (Beijing) and the world’s premier percussion festival, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC, USA).
Daniel won 1. prize at the Italy Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Competition’s Timpani category in Fermo, Italy, 2012, and 2. prize at the Hungarian National Percussion Competition in Budapest, 2009. Most recently Daniel was awarded the Annie Fischer Scholarship of the Ministry of Human Resources of Hungary twice, endorsing several solo and chamber music concerts throughout 2017 and 2018. Previously he was supported by NKA Hungary, Budafok Government, MOL & New Europe Foundation, Bank of China, Liszt Academy Budapest and the PAS Armand Zildjian scholarship.
Daniel studied classical percussion (15 years performance & 1 year pedagogy) and jazz drums (4 years), most recently at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary and at masterclasses around the world, including the Percussion Symposium of Northwestern University (Evanston, IL, USA) and the Croatia Drum Camp with artists including Christopher Lamb, Marc Damoulakis, Vadim Karpinos, She-e Wu, Gordon Stout, Pedro Carneiro, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, John Riley and Horacio Hernandez.
Daniel is a member of Concerto Budapest, one of the premier orchestras of Hungary and performs regularly with the Ligeti Ensemble.
