Introduction
Daniel Moon (Guangnan Yue): A Violin Virtuoso’s Journey
Daniel Moon’s story begins in the historic city of Datong, China, where his remarkable journey with the violin started before he even turned three. Though life interrupted his studies for a few years, his innate talent refused to stay hidden. At just 10 years old, he was admitted to the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, earning the top spot in the rankings and setting the stage for what would become an extraordinary musical career.
By the time he was 13, Daniel was already making waves on the international stage. In 2006, he performed with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra as a cultural ambassador, representing the China-Russia relationship. He continued to build his reputation with accolades like an honorable prize at the Eighth National Youth Violin Competition in Qingdao. The following year, he earned a full scholarship to the Morningside Music Bridge program in Calgary, Canada. In 2008, he debuted with the China National Symphony Orchestra, attended the Great Wall International Music Academy Summer Camp on a full scholarship, and clinched the Silver Prize at the prestigious China Central Television Piano & Violin Competition.
During his time at the Central Conservatory, Daniel also served as concertmaster of the Chinese Juvenile Symphony Orchestra. His dedication to the craft led him to participate in international competitions, including the Lipinski-Wieniawski International Competition in Poland and the Sixth International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in South Korea. He was further honored with a full scholarship to the renowned Meadowmount School of Music.
In 2010, Daniel received a private masterclass with the legendary violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter in Shanghai, an unforgettable milestone. Shortly thereafter, he was admitted to The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division on a full scholarship, studying under the esteemed Lewis Kaplan. Summers became a whirlwind of world-class music programs, including the Bowdoin International Music Festival (three times), the Conservatoire Américain de Fontainebleau in France (twice), and the Portland Bach Music Festival, all on full scholarships.
Daniel’s talent brought him to international stages, including Carnegie Hall in 2013 after winning the KBS New York International Violin Competition. He also performed with the Yokohama Chamber Orchestra in Japan while attending the Sendai International Music Competition. In 2014, the year he began his undergraduate studies at The Juilliard School, Daniel was invited by Christie’s Auction House to present the 1731 Kreutzer Stradivarius violin, which he performed on at a prestigious auction event.
Daniel has appeared in numerous concerts across China and was invited by the Hong Kong International Music Festival to serve as both a faculty member and jury member for its music camps and competitions. In 2018, he embarked on a six-city tour of the UK at the invitation of the British government, performing in venues such as the House of Parliament and the Institute of Directors.
In 2019, Daniel earned a coveted position with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has been performing since January of that year. His journey, marked by passion, persistence, and a love for music, continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
