Introduction
David Sterrett is a trumpet player, composer, arranger, and producer from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He began his formal musical training at the age of 11 and now holds a Master’s degree in trumpet performance from New England Conservatory of Music (Boston, MA) and 2 Bachelor’s degrees in composition and trumpet performance from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX). David has held a position with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (New Orleans, LA), and he has performed with the New Orleans Opera, New World Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Las Colinas Symphony, Virginia Symphony, and Virginia Opera. David has also had the privilege to play alongside the American Brass Quintet and the Dallas Symphony Brass Quintet. He was awarded 2 fellowships with the Aspen Music Festival and School – for Orchestral Trumpet in 2015 and Brass Quintet in 2014. In addition to the Aspen MFS, David studied and performed at the Round Top Summer Festival Institute (Round Top, TX) in 2011 and 2012, and the Kennedy Center Summer Music Institute (Washington D.C.) in 2007 and 2008. David studied trumpet primarily with Tom Booth, Ben Wright, and Peter Chapman; intermittently with Marie Speziale, Ray Mase, Kevin Cobb, Louis Hanzlik, Karin Bliznik, and Tom Cupples. David is a member of the American Federation of Musicians (Local 72-147) and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).
