Introduction
Growing up as an Army Brat, David Nakazono pulls from his international experiences to bring a unique voice and perspective to his music. While earning his B.M. in Trumpet Performance at the University of California—Santa Barbara, David gained experience in orchestral, band, jazz, chamber, and contemporary music. While at UCSB, he recorded for UCSB Amplified and founded the Pops Orchestra at UCSB. He has performed with ensembles including the Young Musician’s Foundation Debut Chamber Orchestra, the Santa Monica Symphony, and the Now Hear Ensemble; and with renowned musicians such as Arturo Sandoval and Joseph Alessi. David attributes his success and growth as a musician to his trumpet teachers, which include: Grant Hungerford, Jon Lewis, Kenneth Capshaw, Friedhelm Biessecker, Jason Ortiz, Anthony Plog, Paul Merkelo, Josef Burgstaller, and supporting parents who kickstarted his musical education. David looks forward to pursuing his musical training under Mark Ridenour of the CSO at the Chicago College of Performing Arts this upcoming Fall.
