Introduction
Feiyan Yang is currently a second-year masters at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studies with Professor Kathryn Lukas. She gained a bachelor’s degree in music performance at Temple University, where she studied with Mrs. Prema Kesselman and Professor David Cramer.
Feiyan was born and grew up in Guangzhou, China. With a great interest of music, she started to play the flute since 8. Feiyan gained her professional study at the School Attached to Xinghai Conservatory of Music. She won the first prize in Winds Regional Trail in Guangzhou in 2010, and the first place in the South China Winds Invitational Tournament in 2013. She was one of the three music exchange students to Wells Cathedral School in England in 2015. She won the Artistic Excellence Fellowship, Jack and Marilyn Moore Graduate Flute Fellowship, and Graduate Tuition Award at Indiana University in 2020-2022.
Feiyan has performed in master classes with such celebrated artists as Maxence Larrieu, Michael Faust, Jeanne Baxstresser, Carol Wincenc, Marina Piccinini, Alexa Still, Bradley Garner, and Guoliang Han. She was the principle flute of Guangzhou Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2011-2015 and the principle flute of Temple University Symphony Orchestra in 2016-2020. Feiyan played second flute in Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021 and now plays principal flute in Indiana University Orchestra.
Through performance and concerts around the world, Feiyan has obtained abundant orchestral experience. Places she has been to include France, England, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. Feiyan was the flute teacher and band instructor at Guangdong Literary and Art Vocational College in China from September, 2020 to March, 2021.
