Introduction
Helena Pilipovic is a young professional viola player and teacher who came from Croatia to the USA to study Viola Performance at Penn State University. Before she came here, she taught viola to a dozen of young viola players at a local music school in Croatia, and during her work gained several county awards in viola competitions with her students. She finished her bachelor and master studies in Croatia, and studied as an exchange student in Leipzig, Germany with the esteemed professor Guy Ben-Ziony. During her years of study, Helena took part in many youth orchestras across Europe such as the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (France), Pur Pur Orchestra (Austria), Atlantic Coast Orchestra (Portugal), Jeunesses Musicales Croatia Orchestra, Tutti-Solo Orchestra (Germany) and for two years was an academist with scholarship in Orchestra Academy Ossiach, Austria. In her professional career she has gained experience as a substitute viola in Croatian Television Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra (Croatia), Zadar Chamber Orchestra (Croatia), Maribor National Theater Orchestra (Slovenia). She performed also as a solo player with the accompaniment of Zadar Chamber Orchestra and held many solo recitals throughout Croatia. Helena is currently studying Viola Performance with prof. Tim Deighton, working on campus as his Teaching Assistant and playing in the University Philharmonic Orchestra as the Principal Viola.
