Introduction
Hui-Yi Lee became principal horn of Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018. As a horn player in the orchestra, Hui-Yi Lee has played under numerous world class conductors including Valery Gergiev, Charles Dutoit, Gabor Takacs-Nagy, Michael Tilson Thomas, Christoph Eschenbach, Iván Fischer, Paavo Järvi, Antonio Pappano, Esa Pekka Salonen and Gianandrea Noseda. She has also performed in several of the world’s most prestigious concert halls including Boston Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Tokyo Opera House and the National Concert Hall in Taiwan. From 2016 to 2018, Hui-Yi was the horn fellow of the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland. The musicians Ms. Lee worked with includes Evgeny Kissin, Daniil Trifonov, Joshua Bell, Janine Jansen, Kyung Wha Chung, Leonidas Kavakos, Mischa Maisky, Mikhaïl Pletnev, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Sergei Nakariakov and Yuja Wang. In USA, Ms. Lee was the co-principal horn of Boston Chamber Symphony during 2015-16 season. She was invited to play with Sarasota Orchestra, and Boston Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Benjamin Zander. Ms. Lee has served as co-principal horn with New England Conservatory Philharmonia Orchestra, Boston University Orchestra, and at other numerous festival orchestras such as Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland, Spoleto Festival in South Carolina, Aspen Music Festival and Asian Youth Orchestra.
Born in Taiwan, Hui-Yi began playing horn at the age of nine. She won the First prize of horn competition in Taipei, Second prize of National horn competition in 2007 and the First prize of National woodwind chamber competition in 2010. She was a horn player in the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2013 under the direction of James Judd and Richard Pontzious. Ms. Lee received her Bachelor of Music degree at National Taiwan Normal University under the instruction of Steve Chuang莊思遠, and Master of Music degree under Eric Ruske at Boston University. After graduated, Ms. Lee extended her studies for Performance Diploma at New England Conservatory under the tutelage of James Somerville and Johnathan Menkis. She returned to BU in 2014 and is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
