Introduction
Flutist Hyeshin Yoon is recently completed a master’s degree in Instrumental Performance at New York University. A South Korean native, she learned piano and violin in elementary school and then picked up the flute as a hobby in sixth grade. She discovered her love for the flute when she won the Gangwon State Competition, which led to her decision to pursue it as a major when she entered Gangwon Art High School.
Hyeshin attended Baekseok University, where she studied with Sung Min Park and Ester Lee. She performed with the Baekseok Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Passionate about solo performance, she competed and was the winner of both the Seoul Philharmonic Competition and Nazareth College Competition. She looked for more educational opportunities in the United States and transferred from Baekseok to Old Dominion University in Virginia, where she completed her bachelor’s degree studying with Bonnie Bokyung Kim. While in Virginia, Hyeshin performed with a chamber ensemble in Chandler Recital Hall as a part of F. Ludwig Diehn Concert Series. She was also the winner of 2014 Hampton Roads Flute Faire Solo Competition.
Following her graduation from Old Dominion University, she moved to New York in 2017 to continue her education. She now studies with Soo-Kyung Park and appears frequently with various ensembles and orchestras of New York University. Most recently, she performed J.S. Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto No. 4 with the NYU Orchestra, and in New York Flutists’s Inception Concert as the founding member
