Introduction

 

Jesús Ramos Morales was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1995. He started his musical studies at age 11 with the “Programa de Orquestas Sinfónicas Juveniles” (POSJU); where he chose the oboe as his instrument and took lessons with Professor Félix Hernández. Jesús did his middle and high school at the “Escuela Especializada Libre de Música Ernesto Ramos Antonini” in San Juan; a school specialized in music, with Professor Leila Martínez. In 2008 and 2011, Jesús won the Young Artist Competition from the school called “Beca Ricardo Morales Sáez”. In 2011 he went with the Symphonic Orchestra of the school as principal oboe to the New York International Music Festival, where they got first prize. Jesús participated in the Puerto Rico Symphony’s educational program called Symphonic Experience, where they held a Concerto Competition, where the winner would get the chance to play as a soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony, which he did in 2008, and 2012.  Since 2010 Jesús joined “Los Violines de Marquito” a group that plays Puerto Rican folkloric and popular music with symphonic instruments, and in 2012 where invited to New York as guest artists to perform in front of 400 guests at the “Puerto Rican Gala from Comité Noviembre” an activity with the purpose to recognize Puerto Rican culture and artists. In 2014 Jesús toured to Mexico with “Orquesta Juvenil Centroamericana y del Caribe”.

Jesús has participated in masterclasses with distinguished professors like Prof. Pedro Díaz, Prof. Nicholas Daniel, Dr. Nancy Ambrose King, Dr. Mark Ostoich, Dr. Henry Grabb, Prof.Mark Ackerman, Dr. Nermis Mieses, Prof. Ivonne Pérez, Prof. Alyssa Mckeithen, Dr. Margaret Marco, Prof. Jason Lichtenwalter, among others.

In 2018, Jesús finished his bachelor’s degree in Oboe Performance at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music with Dr. Frances Colón. He is now doing his master’s degree in Oboe Performance at California State University Fullerton with Dr. Rong-Huey Liu.
