Introduction

Joel Panas is a native of Wheeling, West Virginia and currently lives in Athens, Ohio where he is pursuing a Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance at Ohio University under the guidance of Dr. Rebecca Rischin. Joel also teaches individual clarinet lessons through the Athens Community Music School, privately, and collegiately as the Clarinet Graduate Teaching Assistant.

As a distinguished performer, Joel has had the privilege of playing with numerous prestigious large ensembles. He has served as principal clarinetist with the OHIO Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Philharmonic, and he has played both principal and Eb clarinet with the OU Wind Symphony. Additionally, Joel has contributed his talents to the Cincinnati Wind Band and the Mountain Arts Center Wind Orchestra as the Eb clarinetist.

Beyond his work with large ensembles, Joel is an active chamber musician. He performs with the HarmonicBreez3 Woodwind Trio and the 4JEMS Clarinet Quartet, showcasing his versatility and collaborative spirit. Notably, Joel had the honor of performing as a soloist with the Ohio University Wind Symphony, delivering a compelling rendition of Scott McAllister’s “Black Dog.” This performance highlighted his mastery of extended techniques, including growling and glissandi, etc. His extensive experience and dynamic performances reflect his dedication and exceptional skill as a clarinetist.
