Introduction
Hello,
I am the founder and first guitar in The JB Abbott Trio and Johnny Abbott And The Blue Monks, conserving the American Songbook and traditional Blues, respectively. I led The Perfect Alibi Quartet, performing the Songbook for nearly a decade. Now that I’ve graduated from Berklee, I’ve taken up composing original scores for TV, radio, podcasts, films, and more under Sourland Sounds Music Services, as well as recordings on Murphy Boy Records.
He is an experienced and credentialed guitar teacher of students 7-adult. At the core of my educational philosophy is to foster a supportive and enjoyable learning environment where students can take responsibility for their learning free from ridicule and draconian instruction methods. Lessons are student-centered and customized to each student’s learning needs and tastes including jazz, blues, rock, and pop.
As profound believer that musicians should contribute to the community, I perform in local open mics and in benefit shows, and am especially fond of producing and performing in live showcases to benefit causes such as veterans, animal rescue, and more. Prior to starting my studies at Berklee, I served as the volunteer chapter coordinator for Guitars For Vets, a national nonprofit organization providing free guitar lessons for veterans afflicted with PTSD and other distress at the Lyons and West Orange VA New Jersey Health Care Systems.
Dedicated to the principle that learning is lifelong, I’m a 2021 graduate Magna Cum Laude of the Berklee College of Music and plan to continue formal guitar study. My previous education includes a master’s in education from Rutgers University. Tp keep up with trends in the industry I am an active member of The Recording Academy and of BMI.
