Introduction
John Ohnstad is the Bass/Contrabass Trombonist of the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Big Horn Brass and the Art Abrams Swing Machine Big Band. He is also a co-founder of the Rose City Trombones, the Northwest’s Premier Trombone Ensemble. John has also performed with the Portland Opera, the Oregon Ballet, Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Newport Symphony Orchestra, BRAVO! Vancouver Orchestra, the Salem Chamber Orchestra, the Tucson Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, the Portland Youth Philharmonic and has recently been appointed to the Salem Symphony Orchestra.
While attending the University of Arizona, John performed in all instrumental groups, musical performances and opera productions. After graduating with a degree in Marketing and a Minor in Music Performance, John was appointed to the Walt Disney World All-American Orchestra to perform in “Celebrate Broadway: 100 Year of Broadway Music.” John has recorded 3 albums with the Art Abrams Swing Machine Big Band and was a featured soloist on the latest album, “Speak Low, Swing Hard.”
John’s teachers include Richard Ballou, Marc Wolters, Gary Nelson, Tom Ervin, Jeffrey Reynolds, & George Roberts.
John is a member of AFM, local 99.
