Bassoon

Introduction

Born and raised in Colorado, bassoonist/contrabassoonist Joshua Schairer first began studying bassoon at age ten. He obtained a Master of Music (‘17) and Bachelor of Music (‘15) from the University of Northern Colorado, studying with Tristan Rennie and Charles Hansen.

Comfortable in settings ranging from chamber music to opera, Joshua has performed with the Bay Atlantic Symphony, Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Capital Philharmonic NJ, and Ohio Light Opera orchestras. As a chamber musician, he co-founded the award-winning Bear Lake Wind Quintet (Southard, 2016, & American Prize, 2017).

Currently, Joshua is on faculty at the Tell School of Music at Millersville University (PA), Ocean County College (NJ), and Salem State University (MA). He is a doctoral candidate at Temple University, studying with William Short.
