Introduction
Mexican-American Flutist Marco Núñez recently graduated from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where he earned both an Artist Diploma and the Master of Music degree. Prior to attending Indiana University, Marco received his Bachelor of Music at University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) where he studied with Tadeu Coelho. He has played in master classes for world-renowned flutists, including Sir James Galway, Emmanuel Pahud, Michael Hasel, András Adorján, Carol Wincenc, Leone Buyse, among others. In 2015 Marco won the Rosen-Schaffel Competition for Young and Emerging Artists and the Jacobs School of Music Woodwind Concerto Competition. He also won the 2014 James and Helen Pellerite Orchestral Excerpts Competition at the Jacobs School of Music, UNCSA’s 2013 Fall Concerto Competition, received second prize at the 2011 Rubén Islas Flute Competition, first prize at the 2011 Raleigh Area Flute Association Review and Contest, and was one of the winners of the South Carolina Flute Society Masterclass Competition. Marco has been a soloist with IU Philharmonic, Eastern Festival, UNCSA Symphony, Blas Galindo, and OCFAMUS Orchestras. Recently Marco was a finalist for the New World Symphony Orchestra and will perform with NWS this September. He was also faculty for Panama’s first International Flute Festival this past August and will also be a faculty member for Monterrey’s International Flute Festival this October.
