Introduction
Italian clarinet player, Martina Morello enjoys performing various music styles in different formations, but her greatest passion is as an orchestra player.
She recently joined the Philadelphia Orchestra as a substitute clarinetist for the 2018-2019 season. From 2015 to 2017 she was a member of the Orchestre Sinfonietta de Lausanne. In the past, she performed with the Texas Music Festival Orchestra, Orchestre the Chambre de Lausanne, Opéra the Lausanne, in Switzerland, Orchestre de Canne, in France, Ernst & Young Orchestra in Rome in Italy, and she took part of a production of a musical sponsored by the National Television Rai 3.
As an avid chamber musician, Ms. Morello performed for the Young Artists Series of the Texas Music Festival, and she won the Fuchs Chamber Music Competition with her wind quintet. In France, she played in a duo with the cellist François Salque for “Novembre musical des Voirons”. In 2016, she toured through Italy and Switzerland with a clarinet, viola and piano trio. Passionate about discovering new cultures and new music, she took part in a live broadcast transmission of the Swiss Radio, Espace 2, in a project on Turkish Folk Music. The clarinets duos were composed for the occasion by Elif Ebru Sakar, Turkish composer. In the same year, she performed at the Echo Festival, in Slovenia: the festival brought to life a project about the abolition of borders and the collaboration between two neighbor countries, Slovenia and Italy. In 2013 she performed at the Gran Teatro La Fenice, in Venice, in clarinet duo with her professor, Davide Teodoro. She debuted as soloist in 2012, with the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, in Italy, at Teatro Giovanni da Udine.
As a clarinet pedagogue, she graduated in 2017 from Haute école de musique de Lausanne, Switzerland, where she obtained a Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy, with a thesis on clarinet didactics. Since then she became a passionate educator. She taught clarinet at the Conservatoire de l’Ouest Vaudois, Ecole de musique de la ville de Lausanne, and in several primary schools.
She is a laureate of the Leenaards Foundation, Nicati de Luze Foundation, Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe. When she was younger, Martina performed as well as a pianist. In 2010 her piano trio won the first prize at the Ars Nova International Competition in Trieste, Italy.
Ms. Morello obtained her bachelor’s degree both in clarinet and piano at the Conservatorio Jacopo Tomadini di Udine (clarinet, 2012; piano, 2013). Then, she studied with Michel Lethiec at the Conservatoire de Nice, France, from 2012 to 2016. In 2017 she graduated from the Haute école de musique de Lausanne, under the guidance of Frédéric Rapin. A recipient of the Rahms/Berkman Scholarship, Martina Morello is currently studying with Pascual Martìnez-Forteza, pursuing a Master of Music in Orchestral Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, New York.
