Introduction
Raised in New Berlin, Wisconsin, Max started his musical studies on the piano at the age of six and continued playing until he finished high school. He started playing the flute at eleven years old while studying with Judith Ormond who held the position of 3rd flute/piccolo in the Milwaukee Symphony.
Currently, Max is a first-year graduate student majoring in flute performance at Carnegie Mellon University under the tutelage of Lorna McGhee. Prior to his studies at Carnegie Mellon, he was a dualdegree student at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and Bachelor of Arts in Economic Sciences, respectively. During this time, Max studied the flute under Bonita Boyd and the piccolo under Anne Harrow.
Max has participated in the Blossom Music Festival, Orford Music Academy and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. He was the winner of the Flute Society of Kentucky’s Collegiate Artist Competition. Max was also a finalist at the Eastern Connecticut Concerto Competition and the Couer D’Alene Young Artist Competition. He has made appearances with the Cleveland Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, US Army Field Band and the Eastman Wind Ensemble.
Apart from flute, Max is a reluctant runner, chess enthusiast, amateur sushi chef and noodle maker, and an unreliable economist
