Introduction

Currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in horn performance at Indiana University under the tutelage of Dale Clevenger. Nathanael received his Bachelors from The Juilliard School studying with former American Brass Quintet member, David Wakefield, and he received his Master’s degree from Rice University studying with the principal horn of the Houston Symphony, William VerMeulen. Nathanael has performed under many renowned conductors including Alan Gilbert, Nicholas McGegan, Christopher Hogwood, Matthias Pintcher, John Adams, and Ton Koopman. He held the principal horn position of the award-winning New York Youth Symphony under the baton of Ryan McAdams and has also appeared with the Rockland Symphony, the American Ballet Theatre, the Mendelssohn Hungarian Chamber Orchestra, the Manhattan Symphonie, on Broadway for Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess,” as well as the Mimesis Ensemble to name a few. Aside from playing modern horn, Nathanael also studied Natural Horn with R.J. Kelley and was a member of Houston’s Mercury Baroque Orchestra. Aside from orchestral playing, Nathanael is also an avid Chamber Musician. He was a member of The Quo Vadis brass quintet, which has premiered works by rising composers Stefan Cwik and Simon Frisch. Quo Vadis was selected as the fellowship brass quintet for the 2012 Aspen Music Festival. In his rare free time, Nathanael likes to read, sleep, and brew delicious beer. Currently, Nathanael is a member of the Skylark Horn Quartet, which specializes in new compositions for four horns. Recently, they premiered a new piece for Horn Quartet and Ensemble by composer Will Rowe, and it was premiered with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra. The quartet recently recorded two new compositions for Horn Quartet and electronics.
