Clarinet, Saxophone

Introduction

Prof. Petar KOLEVSKI, a young, enthusiastic and energetic clarinet player and professor was born in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia in 1973. He graduated and mastered clarinet on the Macedonian music academy.

During his studies he has been awarded with prizes on the competitive level of Macedonia as well as in Former Yugoslavia, such as first prize on the level of the Republic of Macedonia and second prize on the federal level of Yugoslavia. He has also attended numerous seminars lectured by highly acclaimed professors and performers of clarinet.

His professional career commenced before his graduation in the Big Band orchestra of the Macedonian national Television house where he played the clarinet (A, B, Es and bass) and the saxophone (soprano, alto, baritone and tenor). As much as he had enjoyed playing jazz music, being his music of choice closely following his devotion to classical music, he found his call in teaching classical clarinet in the music high school Ilija Nikolovski Luj in Skopje very soon after his graduation in 1996.

His main professional work is focused in working with young clarinet talents which has led him to become one of the leading clarinet pedagogues.

This may very well be acknowledged by the success of the students he has taught during his brief but fruitful career. His students have achieved winning numerous prestigious national and international prizes and awards, while his most talented students in these 8 years have been admitted to reputable international schools such as the Julliard school of music in New York, taught by the very well known professor Charles Neidich and Idlewood school of music in California  taught by professor Yahuda Gale.

Mr. Kolevski has established a special professional training for young musicians and has gained a reputation for rigorous academic standards, coupled with a perfectionist’s eye for the details of practice and performance.  More than this, he has an encyclopedic knowledge which extends far beyond his professional field and from which his students gain immeasurably

He has performed as a soloist with orchestra and chamber ensembles. He has played as a soloist with the Macedonian philharmonic orchestra and has been invited on several occasions to play in their orchestra. He is also invited to play in the academic orchestra of the Music academy, and has took part in the international orchestra formed for the 50th anniversary of the Music academy.

Besides these performances, Mr.Kolevski has played on the reputable Skopje summer festival in a chamber quintet (four clarinets and a harmonica) and in a duo, and has also played at the opening of the internationally known Ohrid summer festival with the Big Band orchestra.

In 2011, Kolevski recorded his first CD containing transcriptions of famous composers, such as Verdi, Paganini and Gershwin.

He is a permanent member of the jury for state competitions.
