Introduction
Bob Peterson is the leading exponent of the new methodology for training young bassists. In June of 1973, Bob began his studies under the direction of Big Band Bassist Howard (Cookie) Cook. Bob is a graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, with degrees in both performing and education. In the late 1980s, Bob began teaching string instrumental music for the Harford County Schools in Maryland. From 1989 to 2024, Bob taught string instrumental music for the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional Schools in Princeton Junction, New Jersey. Bob was the former orchestra director of West Windsor Plainsboro High School South.
Bob performs professionally as Principal Bass: Bohéme Opera of New Jersey, Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey, Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, and Orchestra Society of Philadelphia. Assistant Principal Bass: Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea, East Brunswick Symphony Orchestra, and formally for the American Repertory Ballet Orchestra, Trenton Symphony Orchestra, and the Delaware Valley Philharmonic. Bob also performs in other orchestral freelance venues, such as stage shows, studio recordings, operatic, and ballet venues. Bob also occasionally performs with The Orchestras of Princeton University, The College of New Jersey, and Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey.
Bob has performed on orchestra tours around the world: Australia (1981), England, Scotland, and Wales (1983), Mainland China and Hong Kong (1985), Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil (1987), The Czech Republic and Austria (2003 and 2018), South Korea (2007), Germany and The Netherlands (2013), and Italy (2014).
