Introduction

A first prize winner of the NCMTA and Eastern Youth Orchestra competitions, Scott Alex Lavine is a freshman at East Carolina University, where he is continuing his studies with his mentor of four years, Emanuel Gruber. Other teachers have included Jeffrey Solow, Christopher Nunnally, and Wendy Bissinger. Alex has participated in masterclasses with such figures as Lynn Harrell, Colin Carr, Marcy Rosen, Fred Sherry, and Arkady Orlovsky. A regular participant in the Soli Deo Gloria concert series in Greenville, Alex has also participated in the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival’s Next Generation program, where he has gotten to collaborate with Ara Gregorian, Hye-Jin Kim, Zvi Plesser, and Colin Carr. Alex has served as principal cellist of the Eastern Youth Orchestra, Summit Music Festival Orchestra, and currently performs as part of the ECU Symphony Orchestra. During the summer, he has studied at Summit Music Festival in Purchase, New York, Zodiac Music Festival in Valdeblore, France, and the Summer Chamber Music Institute in Greenville, North Carolina. An avid chamber musician, Alex has had the chance to work with and be coached by Yoram Youngerman, Michael Klotz, Jeffrey Solow, Miriam Hahn, Keiko Sekino, and Hye-Jin Kim. As second place winner of the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition, Alex will be making his Carnegie Hall debut in New York this April.
